I started walking faster but they drove about a half a foot behind me with lights blazing. My dog stopped so I stopped and the car moved 4 feet ahead and stopped. I draged my dog as fast as I could past the car and started speed walking home. The car drove a half a foot away from my back until we got to the next stop sign. The car stopped and watched me cross the road and run up the stairs of my apartment building. I turned around and they were still sitting there.

People I know who have silver cars that I can remember...
-Nick (but he's in Deep River)
-Jeff (But he's in Boznia now)
-Dingo Dave
-I believe Jocka Nick

I'm sure there's more... and I can't ever rule out Danny or Jeremy or Turbo. Developments within the medical field as well as in the legal field have helped plant the seeds of change within the social realm of our society. We can see these changes when we focus in on the amount of information we now have at our disposal and what has be drawn from it all.

These changes include, yet are not limited to, the move from the one sex model over to the two sex model, the discovery of hormones in the mid-nineteenth century, the introduction of the birth control movement in the twentieth century, the naming of “gender” in the twentieth century, the plastic surgery craze in the early to mid twentieth century, decriminalization of private adult homosexual acts in the twentieth century and learning about sexually transmitted diseases i.e HIV/AIDS.

The transition from the one sex model over to the two sex model was an important step towards finding the truths about the human anatomy. Before this it was thought that a woman’s genitalia was just that of a males yet inverted, as we can see in figures 30-31 on page 88 of Laqueur . False truths were thereby used to justify stereotypes and oppressive behaviors on the behalf of the predominantly male medical practitioners. Too many of these stereotypes and misguided beliefs have stayed linked with our culture as time went on. The finding of the two sex model however lessened the justifications of this significantly.

The discovery of hormones within the mid-ninetieth century came to be with the realization from such researchers as Thomas Addison and Claude Bernard, that internal organs secrete substances that are thought to play a role in metabolism and general health (Nye. 1999.P.240). This was incredibly influential information as it led to the mapping of the function and extent of the endocrine system later in the twentieth century. This also greatly helped in the exploration of the other chemicals in which the body produces, such as the notorious neurotransmitters.

The “hormonal body” discovery empowered us with the understanding of how these
“secretions” affect the body. What role they play when it comes to the bodies health, and they’re contribution to the internal economy (Nye. 1999. P.240). The “sex hormone” discovery was also a revolutionary triumph of science which lead to the, “efforts to extract and later synthesize them for “therapeutic use”(Nye. 1999. P.240). One of the greatest noted accomplishments to do with the discovery of hormones and which came out of this change/progression within the past two centuries, was the invention of synthetic hormones. Oestrogen, is one such synthetic hormone and is currently the most commonly used in prescription drugs around the world.Working with these newly discovered hormones, scientists began work on a contraceptive drug that would work with women’s sex hormones in order to control ovulation and thereby allow women control over their reproduction. This idea was fought by people still holding as though true, the stereotypes about women from our histories falsified truths. Also fighting this idea was various religions who came up with their own reasoning which went against women’s ability to choose for themselves when and with who they would like to procreate.

Women in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were coming more into their own. Women’s movements were pushing women further into the equality which meant that more and more women were joining the workforce. It is stated that, “between 1870 and 1930 the number of employed American woman increased by tenfold, bringing the total to over 10 million, or one forth of the eligible female population” (Nye. 1999. P. 312). Along with this work force liberation came the debate about weather or not it was possible for a woman to be in the job force and at the same time, raise children which was and is still to this day a powerful question. America’s women’s fertility became a hot issue.

The birth control movement thrived in the 1920s as it dealt with the controversial
interests of the public. The author of The Pivot of Civilization, Margaret Sanger wrote, “Women can attain freedom only by concrete, definite knowledge of themselves, a knowledge based on biology , physiology and psychology... Birth control is no negative philosophy concerned solely with the number of children brought into the world. It is not merely a question of population . Primarily it is the instrument of liberation and human development” (Nye. 1999. 314) With the debates between the sexes being fought steadily now, it was also a time in which to look at the, “other”. People who did not fit into the role of men or women by societal standards and who had in the past been more or less ignored and written off as having either a mutation of the genitalia or a psychological disease. When finally acknowledging and studying these people in the 1950s, the word “gender” was finally constructed. “Gender” was then to be the term used to describe “psychological sex” (Nye. 1999. P.283). Having this term which incorporated what “sex” could not, finally made it possible for the conversation of the “other” to be integrated with “us” more freely.

Along with the construction of “gender” came the cosmetic plastic surgery craze. It was discovered that what was thought to be a psychological disorder, could in fact be treated by cosmetic plastic surgery alongside psychiatric counseling. Scientific studies and psychological analysis of these sexed bodies came together to come up with the idea of treating the physical as well as the psychological in these situations. Sex reassignment was fought for by doctors now as part of a psychological treatment (Nye. 1999. P. 284). Plastic surgery did not just focus on genital reconfiguration. It also highlighted other areas for people to want to conform to “norms” in their appearances. Not only do people need the “correct” genitalia, they also need to be thin, with a smaller nose, higher cheeks etc.

With a slowly but surely growing open mindedness, “coming out” became a topic to be dealt with. In the nineteenth century, much of homosexual behavior was illegal under Sexual Offences Acts. A famous and tragic story concerning this has to deal with the writer Oscar Wild in 1895 and his two year jail sentence that broke him, ruined his career and caused him to pass away earlier than he most likely would have if he had not been put through the hard labor. He was in other words, legally tortured for being found to love the wrong person (Nye. 1999 P. 364).

The twentieth century was a time of great triumph for the homosexual community. Laws were challenged and changed while others were passed making it possible for homosexual people to not be charged criminally for their sexual orientation. They were now able to gather and gather they did. The 1970's were a time of great marches and protests which brought attention to their fight. Many strides were taken in the direction of diminishing oppression. Oppression is however still a problem for the homosexual community today, yet we are still fighting toward full equality no matter who one loves.

One of the stigma’s that society held about the homosexual community was that sexually transmitted diseases/infections came from them. “Activists became convinced that gay sexual practices in the “liberated” 1970s and 1980s had contributed directly to the spread of disease” (Nye. 1999. P. 395) This was due to the fact that the majority of people were not adequately educated about homosexuals, as well as the fact that their behavior had once been criminalized and deemed promiscuous and unnatural by those who opposed it.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) became a major cause for concern withing the twentieth century. Once thought of as a disease only the “others” had, HIV and AIDS spread throughout society quickly and did not seem to care what anyone’s sexual orientation was.

Science somewhat took over many of the questions which religion used to attempt to answer. People now wanted answers that could also offer with tangible proof to back them up. Scientific studies therefore were performed in abundance at this time. One such scientific studies which also tied in psychological analysis of the sexed body, was that of the Kinsey’s sex surveys.
These were not completely reliable but they were the first that came close in this area of study. As societies attitudes change/progress on the topic of sex and sexuality, the reliability of scientific studies on these topics will increase. The twentieth century did show improvement in this area yet there are still some taboo topics where reporting may not be completely accurate (Nye. 1999. P. 409).

People’s lived experience with sex within these two centuries changed fairly dramatically with all of the progressions mentioned above. Before the introduction to birth control, for example, women were terrified of unwanted pregnancies so they had to either abstain or deal with the consequences. Before the legalization of homosexuality, people found to be homosexual were being killed and then they were being imprisoned. For a time, called the 1960s-1980s, there was an arguably utopian time in history where there was a wave of “free love”. With the HIV and AIDS epidemic coming into the picture however, this “free love” had to come to an end.

The progress made over the past two centuries should not be taken lightly. However, complete liberation has not yet been accomplished. Women, transgendered individuals and the homosexual community have not yet obtained full equality with that of heterosexual men. Sometime in the future it is however hoped that yes, the end will be liberation. For now, the fight continues.

References

Laqueur, Thomas. 1990. The assignment was to write a letter to someone whom you are gratful to have in your life. I chose my father.

Dear Dad,

I know I tell you I love you everyday and I truly hope that you know I am sincere. What I may not tell you as often as I should is why I love you so much, and thank you, for everything that you are and do. Thank you daddy for being you.

Since the day I was born and you held me and sang, your voice has been home to me. When I am afraid and feeling all alone and lost in this great big world, I only have to remind myself that you love and think about me. When it feels as though every one and everything is against me and as though the world is crashing down upon me, I know I have you on my side. When things get too hard and I don’t have the motivation to get out of bed for myself, I know that someone out there cares, which gives me the strength to keep going.

You have always been a hand to hold, someone who shelters me from every storm you can, warms my hands when you think they may be cold. You have been my rock forever, my superman, my Mr. Mom. With every fire-breathing dragon put in our way, you have always ended the fight as my hero. No matter how uncontrollable I have been in my past or how rebellious I was, you never gave up on me.

When we lost the ability to communicate, when my teenage years of rebellion turned me into someone even I didn’t like very much, when I was consumed with my problems and issues, oblivious to what you were going through, you didn’t give up on me. You never lost faith in me. Without you, I truly don’t believe I would be here where I am. Thank you dad.

Life hasn’t been easy for you. The love of your life passed away leaving you with two small children. Two small children with medical problems that would never fully disappear. You held in, and I need you to know how incredibly appreciative I am of you. Not only did you always keep a roof over my head and food in my belly... even through at times I refused to eat it, you gave me love which I can never tell you how much I appreciate. You gave me life and everyday you have helped to sustain it. You are my hero daddy.

I Love You!

Love Always,

Your little girl

26 Unique things about me...lol

Alright... this is Jing and my list of odd things about me. Determining what does what within ourselves could then possibly lead to the ability to fix ailments otherwise unable to be treated. This could also be used to justify the oppression of the female gender as a whole. By determining the differences between the genders and then deeming one inferior, hundreds of years of men with a superiority complex could develop. With time comes experience which develops into knowledge which is tested by generations. Over the course of history, a number of truths were found to be false upon further exploration..

By distributing names to more and more of the unknown, we were
acknowledging/identifying their being and thus beginning our quest to find their purpose. As humans are notorious for being afraid of the unknown, answers were in desperate need of being found. This unfortunately lead to jumping to false conclusions on a number of occasions. One such idea was that of the females sexual organs being that of a males only inverted. This idea was given justification by the trusted medical practitioners of the time through illustrations showing the internal workings of males and females, yet with over exaggerated emphasis on the
similarities between them. Any and all ideas to the contrary were explained away using unsubstantiated logic or simply ignored. Examples of such illustrations may be found in Thomas Laqueur’s Making Sex, on pages 78-93 with figures 13-37.

“Renissaince doctors understood there to be only one sex. On the other hand, there were manifestly at least two social sexes with radically different rights and obligations, somehow corresponding to ranges or bands, higher or lower, on the corporeal scale of being. Neither sort of sex-social or bilogical- could be viewed as fundemental or primary, although gender divisions- the categories of social sex- were certainly construed as natural. More importantly, though, biological sex, which we generally take to serve as the basis of gender, was just as much in the domain of culture and meaning as was gender.” (Laqueur, p.134)

The illustrations presented show erotic depictions of cadavers, statues coming to life, people literally tearing themselves apart, internal reproductive organs removed from host and put on display next to that of the opposite gender’s. This shows the sincere curiosity of the time with our internal workings. It also shows the culture present at that time, as the illustrations were often set in a more romanticized fashion than factual. Another observation that can be made about these illustrations, is the fact that it is pretty obvious when knowing what we know
today, that those who came up with the inverted sexual organs theory, were trying to use these illustrations as a method to prove their theory correct. Truths have been stretched to better correspond with the ideas presented by those with authority in the medical field. With the public having no other option than to take the authority’s word for it and no reason to question their findings, this remained the “known truth” for some time.

“Nothing could be more obvious, implied the most influential anatomist in the western tradition, than to imagine women as men. For the dullard who could not grasp the point immediately, Galen offers a step by step thought experiment.” (Laqueur, p.24)

“Believing is seeing. The new anatomy displayed, at many levels and with unprecedented vigor, the “fact” that the vagina really is a penis, and the uterus a scrotum. Berengario makes absolutely sure that his readers do not miss or doubt the point: the neck of the uterus is like the penis, and its receptacle with testicles and vessels is like the scrotum.” (Laqueur, p.79)

When looking at the vast amount of similarities presented at this time between the
reproductive organs, women were still deemed to be the inferior and the weaker of the sexes. This phenomenon is difficult to explain as one may think today that the person with the genitals more openly exposed would be the one thought of as the most vulnerable, but since men ruled the world, this did not end up being the case. Theories were rampant at this time in history. These theories often incorporated religious beliefs, folk tales, exaggerated observations and a touch of imagination.

“Only women have a womb, Rondibilis says, with no hint of literary shiftiness. But the womb is “an animal”, he continues, a move to metaphor and an allusion to Timaeus (91b-d), where Plato refers to both the male and female genital organs as animals prone to wander unless satisfied. And then, in the usual Renaissance manner of piling on similes, the organ, the womb, which is said not to exist in man, becomes “un membre,” a term that can of course mean simply an organ but that referred more specifically in the sixteenth century to an appendage - an arm or leg- or when used alone, as in “his member”, to the penis. There was no sense in which membre ever referred to “her member”. The point here is not that Rondibilis is making a controversial claim in saying that only women have a womb; no one denied this. It is rather that once again a female organ is attracted into the metaphorical orbit of the male, not in order a claim about likeness but to assert that all difference is figured on the vertical scale of man” (Laqueur, p.110)

“Language marks this view of sexual difference. For two millenia the ovary, an organ that by the early nineteenth century had become a synecdoche for women, had not even a name of it’s own. Galen refers to it by the same word he uses for the male testes, orcheis, allowing context to make clear which sex he is concerned with. Herophilus had called the ovaries didymoi (twins), another standard Greek word for testicles...” (Laqueur, pgs. 4-5)

Religion and men were the rulers of all at this time. They were held as the highest of authority figures. What they said was then to be undisputed law. It was unequivocal truth. It was not to be questioned by the uneducated, the poor, the female of our species. The Church had a say in nearly all that was being questioned and discovered. It also made a significant impact onnaming as well as language in general. This is seen when we consider the evolution of sacrament of penance and Catholic pastoral after the Council of Trent in the Middle Ages. Here people were discouraged from elaborating on sexual experiences when in confession. Impure thoughts and actions were described vaguely. Some men did not believe this was truly the correct way to receive forgiveness for these sins in confession. Authors by the name of Sanchez and Tamburini, for example believed that the description of the details were, “indispensable for the confession to be complete: description of the respective positions of the partners, the postures assumed, gestures, places touched, caresses, the precise moment of pleasure-an entire painstaking review
of the sexual act in it’s unfolding.” (Foucault, p.19)

“After centuries of hesitation about the acceptability of sex even in holy matrimony, the Catholic church settled for tightening the bonds of marriage, requiring yearly confessions of the faithful in order to be certain that sexual activity-of the right kind-was restricted to wedded couples, and punishing individuals who committed fornication (sexual relations out of wedlock)” (Nye, p. 51)

Speaking about sex, making reference to sex, alluding to the act of sex has been an issue of great controversy. It has, in North American culture (as well as in a number of other cultures around the world) been somewhat pushed into the shadows and thought of as somewhat of a secret.

“The objection will doubtless be raised that if so many stimulations and constraining mechanisms were necessary in order to speak of sex, this was because there reigned over everyone a certain fundamental prohibition; only definite necessities-economic pressures, political requirements-were able to lift this prohibition and open a few approaches to the discourse on sex, but these were limited and carefully coded; so much talk about sex, so many insistent devices contrived for causing it to be talked about-but under strict conditions: does this not prove that it was an object of secrecy, and more important, that there is still an attempt to keep it that way?” (Foucault, p.34)

“We must not forget that by making sex into that which, above all else, had to be confessed, the Christian pastoral always presented it as the disquieting enigma: not a thing which stubbornly shows itself, but one which always hides, the insidious presence that speaks in a voice so muted often disguised that one risks remaining deaf to it. Doubtless the secret does not reside in that basic reality in relation to which all the incitements to speak of sex are situated-whether they try to force the secret, or wether in some obscure way they reinforce it by the manner in which they speak of it.” (Foucault, p.35)

As sex was by far, not included an acceptable part of everyday conversation, the plethora of knowledge about sex and sexuality had not yet been collected and categorized to the extent in which it has been today. As time went on the power of names in collaboration with definitions of these names sparked a proliferation of names which has been powerful in it’s importance since the 17th century.

“Where the Greeks bisexual, then? Yes, if we mean by this that a Greek could, simultaneously or in turn, be enamored of a boy or a girl; that a married man could have paidika; that it was common for a male to change to a preference for women after “boy-loving” inclinations in his youth. But if we wish to turn our attention to the way in which they conceived of this duel practice, we need to take note of the fact that they did not recognize two kinds of “desire”, two different or competing “drives”, each claiming a share of men’s hearts or appetites. We can talk about their “bisexuality”, thinking of the free choice they allowed themselves between the two sexes, but for them this option was not referred to as a duel, ambivalent, and “bisexual” structure of desires.” (Nye, p. 28)

“We must not forget that the psychological, psychiatric, medical categories of homosexuality was constituted from the moment it was characterized-Westphal’s famous article of 1870 on “contrary sexual sensations” can stand as it’s date of birth- less by a type of sexual relations than by a certain quality of sexual sensibility, a certain way of inverting the masculine and the feminine in oneself. Homosexuality appeared as one of the forms of sexuality when it was transposed from the practice of sodomy onto a kind of interior androgyny, a hermaphrodism of the soul. The sodomite had been a temporary aberration; the homosexual was now a species.” (Foucault, p.43)

Putting names to sexual behaviors, as it also did in the case of putting names to the sexual anatomy, gave people a chance to judge these newly named behaviors and parts. A lot of these judgements lead to unjustifiable fears, stereotypes and misplaced superiority complexes. People were assigned labels. Suddenly something that was not a mental disorder, became one. Something that had no legal ramifications suddenly became a crime against the people. Sodomy is an example of this. Even when both parties are in agreement with the act, it was against the law.

“Between 1682-1684 four sodimites were executed in Rotterdam, and at least one in the Hague. Several others were sentenced in abstentia. In the next few decades, especially in Rotterdam, such trials become recurrent affairs. In 1702 two men were put to death there because they had perpetrated sodomy...” (Nye, p. 65)

“In the early colonies, the term and concept “sodomy” had connotations that they do not generally have for present-day Americans.” (Nye, p. 64)

“The early colonists found themselves at the mercy of natural, life-threatening forces which, personified as “God”, seemed angry, vengeful and punishing. The biblical Sodom and Gomorrah story likewise reflected an era of social development in which natural disasters were seen as God’s punishment for human moral error. Inhibited by a vindictive God , the early Puritan universe also included an active, malicious Devil, an often-evoked hell, and occasional malevolent witches. Early colonial lists of capital crimes included both sodomy and witchcraft.” (Nye, p. 64)

Naming led to the proliferation of names which was intermingled with the medicalization of mainly women’s bodies. Women’s reproductive organs which deemed them the weaker sex also became a cause of concern for the medical field. Medical illustrations found on page 87 (Figures 28-29) of Laqueur’s Making Sex show that as names were assigned to the many different internal organs, it began to give the medical field a better understanding of it’s workings. This is not to say that misunderstandings were not also rampant at this time.

Not all of the medical practitioners were satisfied with simply naming the different components of the sexual anatomy of men and women. From the one sex model came the two sex which we have to this day. The numerous different parts of the male and female reproductive systems were named and studied to figure out their particular functions. Theories were presented and tested. Over time truths were found and misconceptions were weeded out. Medical practices were brought forth, used, tested and either found to be beneficial or not by mainly the use of trial and error. All and all, the progression from the 17th century has been immense and the documentation paints a rich picture of all that has brought up to this day.

“We are often reminded of the countless procedures which Christianity once employed to make us detest the body; but let us ponder all the ruses that were employed for centuries to make us love sex, to make , to make the knowledge of it desirable and everything said about it precious. Let us consider the stratagems by which we were introduced to apply all our skills to discovering its secrets, by which we were attached to the obligation to draw out its truth, and made guilty for having failed to recognize it for so long. These devices are what ought to make us wonder today. Moreover, we need to consider the possibility that one day, perhaps, in a different economy of bodies and pleasures, people will no longer quite understand how the ruses of sexuality, and the power that sustains its organization, were able to subject us to that austere monarchy of sex, so that we became dedicated to the endless task of forcing its secret, of exacting the truest of confessions from a shadow.” (Foucault, p.159)

References

Foucault, Michel. Two words.....Bon Fire lol"

5)Robbie

"Not that many recent memories of you since I haven't seen you for so long but I remember more about your family as a whole. They were always kind to animals. her eldest brother always had his own private zoo in the house (dogs, cats, turtles, lizards, birds). The dad was building his own fishing hole so he could fish, and then release them back into the water.
What are you up to now?"

6)Liane

"You wouldn't believe what the first memory is that popped into my head... LOL! Giving our Families in Society teacher a complete melt down. I think her name was Ms. McInnis or something like that... I don't remember though! We were complete assholes to her... I'm not saying she didn't deserve it... We all know she did... but we were so mean to her! haha!!!! "

7)Katie

"LOL Well I remember we were at your house... drinking and we went to the park... Apparently I had way too much to drink and someone had to carry my sorry ass back to your house lol :P

8)Kimberly

"It's not a memory per say, but I just remember you had such amazing eyes, and I would always tell you that... they were like lime-ish green.. I dont know, absolutely gorgeous though!"

9)Reid

"I remember chillin out back of your place behind your stagnant pool with your brother and getting drunk and high as hell. Then you would strole over with some of your friends and join in the drinking and the playing of badminton with rocks we found on the ground. The time your dad came back and caught us drinking and was pissed and made us all leave haha. We probably just went to the school. Or how bout all the good times chillin at Zenith's. Ah good ole ghetto Zenith's aka Coffee Group 21 aka no longer exists haha."

10)Hayley

"Remember that time when we froze our asses off then got drunk when you had two exams the next day...oh wait... that was earlier this week hahahaha"

11)Rebekah

"The first time I met our darling was in my intro to soc class in first year. I hated the class and I didn't know anyone. She sat beside me and offered me a piece of gum and I instantaneously thought she rocked. Okay...so then we had numerous study groups, most of which occured at her place and I had the pleasure of meeting her now ex-boyfriend, who by the way, was on the Camilla Scott talk show. Does it get any better than that? Wait, yes it does! She has the cutest little puppy in the world who tried to pee in my shoe. All in all, it was super awesome"

12)Naz

"....A special memory I have is when we all (Aynsley, Mel, another WRC volunteer and moi) went to see Running w/scissors, but because there were no more seats left, we went to see the Illusionist instead. Now the movie was fabuloso, but afterwards, while riding the bus home, all three of us (Aynsley, you and moi) certainly enjoyed a wonderful *winks* conversation with the bus driver, who was the same bus driver, you and Aynsley apparently befriended while we were busing to the theatre. It was pretty much just some good ole' fashioned shits and giggles, but it was awesome. Especially the next day during my economics midterm when I wished I had studied for it, but didn't regret the rad time I had the night before. Best time eva', especially on the eve of my first midterm in Uni.
*sighs*...t'was a great time and the memories all still w/moi, even if it was a mini-significant event. "

13)Stephanie

"My Memory is an old one! First day of Grade six at a brand new school. Standing there madder then hell, all I wanted was to be back at my old school with my old friends. You walked up to me Said " HI, I'm _______, what grade r u in?" haha from there we developed what eventually became a rocky friendship. But the memories over that time are many! Still trying to figure out who came up with the orange juice pee idea... oh wait nvm... that would be tiffany-lynn. Wow this seems like forever ago... I remember you always had a kind heart. Was a great friend to have!
YAY isn't the past fun... Cheers!"

14)Adam

"Personaly can't remember a whole hell of a lot about Krista.... the common occurance is getting plastered to the point of not remembering it.... so thus my memories are somewhat non existant... but we've managed to get you some furniture and have many an odd yet interesting conversation and get some damn good food..."

15)Stephanie

"lol, ok, I've got one! Me you and Jessica were drinking..just walking around and we walked across that icey field and you got your foot caught in the ice and lost your shoe. You were soaked, intoxicated and without a shoe! Man that was so funny after it was all said and done."

16)Jingjing

"Umm... but there's so many fond memories?? How will I list them?
1. watching your stupid work related video
2. getting your number from the cards at The Edge
3. walking Rambo
4. bright white faces in photos... i swear, i'm not azn, i'm white!
5. Russell Peters....need I say more?
6. riding the horses at Honest Lawyers and the yard of beer?!

I think there's more, but these are the ones i remember right now :P
Oh yea!!
7. It would become a raft carrying me down a peaceful bubbling brook past feilds of tall grass, the fresh and free aroma of wild flowers would fill the air, the joyus singing of birds in the nearby weaping willow trees swaying in the cool breeze would bring an all engulfing sense of contentment over and through me.

It was where I would wait for my prince to rescue me. He would pick me up into his strong embrace and shelter me from the falling debree as all around me would crumble into dust. We would gaze into each other's eyes and ride off into the sunset to begin our happily ever after.

I would glide over breath taking scenic landscapes on my "magic carpet". I would lounge amongst the clouds, watch the stars sparkle, dance in the rain, bathe in the sun rays (At this point I was un-notified of the harm of these rays... )

My pillows surrounding me made for a fortress so strong (made strong by the magical spell put forth upon it by my guardian angel). I was safe from all who may attempt to cause me harm. The pillows were my walls, and I was safe.

If I was to put the covers over my head... I would vanish into thin air. I was free from any and all troubles as long as I was hoping hard enough and believing strongly enough and holding the blankets up and over with enough drive... I could disappear.. yet never fear lonelyness.

I was unable to disappear this time around. Some of the magic seemed to have faded. My quest is to recapture it and if possible transport it here to Ottawa so I can once again role into a cluster of pillows, warm and shaping. To have the feeling as though I am being cuddled back, safe, and once again... on an adventure... not alone... safe.

My goal shall be reached ;)

RAMBO!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_kpVGduH8e2k/R78xx6PfwqI/AAAAAAAAAA4/LJxjCWeUyjE/s320/Rambo+on+Krista%27s+grad+day+lol.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169905630762222242" />
I'm off to Ottawa again tomorrow and my heart is heavy. I will go over my activities of the day as well as some good old memories pertaining to life with my family... here we go:

*Family Day Quote of 2008*

"Shut up! It's Family Day!" ~ My eldest brother to me and then later in the conversation from my father to the both of us LOL

Activities done on Family Day:

- Daddy and daughter shopping (it worked out for me quite well ;) I hope this will become a tradition! LOL)
- Movie day + eating too much and not doing any work (other than housework to make things easier on the family... makes sense...)
- Going to little Italy to see my father's girlfriend's mother... I really want to learn that kiss on both cheeks thing... which cheek goes first??? God forbid I make a mistake and plant one on a eighty year olds lips... that would be more play than I've had in a long time and may just possibly be detrimental to my sex drive and ego...lmao
- Visit my grandmother in her retirement facility which is a nicer place than most resorts I have been to (minus all of the old people jk jk jk
- Convince my grandmother to call my phone and leave a message of her singing a Latvian lullaby to me so that I may learn it and record it to sing when she passes (kinda morbid? I think so...)
- Go to Swiss Chalet! "A virgin strawberry daquari for the kids" ~ Dad LOL We are all in our mid to late twenties...
- Drop off dad's girlfriend and return home to watch a movie we all agree on (FAT CHANCE! ... One we can all stand... that works ;)
-When everyone was snug asleep in their beds I stayed up and had a screw driver or two with the dogs and watched happy chick flicks until my toes curled, legs tensed and kicked, face hurt from smiling and both puppies were spoiled with hugs and kisses (I know... I'm a huge nerd who will die alone... BUT WITH PUPPIES WHO LOVE ME! lol)

All and all, a pretty sweet family day! The only thing I would have done differently would have been to see my mother. During this trip I make it my mission to somehow go and see her. I love you mom!

Now for some reminiscing about my family and life when with them:

- My father, eldest brother, middle brother and grandmother all have cds... I on the other hand do not. I was though in the Scarborough choir, talent shows, a karaoke connoisseur, shower diva, sing along champ, open mic superstar ect... not to toot my own horn LOL There WILL be a cd out! Just wait! LOL
- My dad sings gospel
- My eldest brother tours with his black metal band
- My grandma sang church Christmas carols in Latvian
- My middle brother did electronica
* Yes they all have other jobs as well ;)
- When my family drives by the Bass Pro Shop in Vaughn, we are all made to salute out the car window LOL
- We all know pretty much every word to the musicals Les Miserables, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Labyrinth
- We all know pretty much every word to every Elvis, Beetles or Rod Stewart song ever written
- Just like at my apartment in Ottawa, pictures of my mother are displayed everywhere here. True love never dies!
- Once I went out on my pool deck when taking out the puppies on a visit home from school and I found a 3lb large mouth bass just swimming around the now unchlorinated pool...
- My eldest brother once brought home a bucket with three tiny black kittens soaking wet that he had found abandoned at our old farm. I cleaned them up and took care of them... I miss them
- We used to have a cockatoo (I think it was) that used to say "Shut up Tim... shut up Tim" hahaha I taught him that... my brother HATED it hahahahaha

Alright, it's late and I really want an apple... I'll write back later ;)

P.S Write messages! I need encouragement to keep me interested and entertained! I know people read this as there have been over 120 views so far... put your two cents it! I don't bite hard :P

Life in Toronto

Life in Ottawa is much different than life in Toronto for me as in Ottawa a lot of the work I do is confidential while in Toronto I am free to tell my stories :)

Today I woke up to my brother leaving for band practice (http://www.eclipseeternal.com/links-to-pages.html)

...and a amphibian and reptile show in Mississauga.

We met up later at the Canon theater down town Toronto to see "We Will Rock you" (The musical by QUEEN and Ben Elton. WOW!!!!!! It blew my mind!!!!!!! http://www.wewillrockyou.ca/

After this I went to a dinner party with my future publisher (if I so choose to go with her). Here there was talk about commissioning me to write a book about my dealings with the Endometriosis Association (http://www.endo-online.org/) as well as my personal experiences with the disease (medicalization and refusal to give up on having children in the future by going with experimental treatments instead of a hysterectomy). With everything else I have been through in my life, this did not seem like the thing I would be asked to write about but it's food for thought...

During this dinner meeting I received a phone call from an employer in Ottawa asking for references for a friend Trevor who did not inform me prior that he was using me for this purpose... NOTE TO ALL... You need to tell me in advance! lol I was forced to reschedule until tomorrow as I was in a meeting of my own.

Alright, the boys are up stairs waiting to start a movie with me so I have to be on my way. I'll try to write back soon.

Dream hug me until we meet again ;)

RANDOM!

Alright, I was off of my game with the last post, and it was a bit too bitter for my taste, and I do not want to leave it like that as it isn't me and isn't showing off who I am which is kinda the point of this blog? Really ... I don't know what the point of this blog is... kinda hoping someone else would fill me in on the reason and motivation... lol

Now to keep with my promise to stop acting like a love sick puppy once Valentines day was over (because really, if the higher powers feel as though I am the only one good enough to be with me... how can I argue with that kind of logic :P I'd do me and see me the next day!) here we go ;)

Yesterday I was writing the blog while packing, being horribly hung over, talking to a new friend...
-On That Note Check This Out! http://www.twoguysfromtoronto.com/?id=98
...and listening to my room mate explode in pure happiness about her bf's arrival, being jealous (real time consumer that one LOL), going through numerous pictures taken of me, detaging on facebook, cleaning, candy gathering, unsalting my purse... you know, the usual :P

I was originally going to take an early bus but I was slow and was enjoying the combination of activities I was engaged in. I took a cab to the Greyhound station and OMG the line! It was out of this world. The bus was supposed to be there at 7 but it was an hour late. Three buses showed up and I was still not on one :O I was left there waiting until 10:30 for a bus 3.5 hours waiting!

So this is what came out of it...

-The brand Yum Yum chips seem to have a monopoly on the chip business in both bowling allies and bus stations in Ottawa
-Macaulay Culkin bought Marylin Manson his first pack of smokes during the production on Party Monster. True odd fact! Check it out! :P
-If you have two bunnies that don't get along, what you need to do apparently is put them together and go for a car ride. It makes them bond... apparently bunnies are stubborn and go by first impressions...but a car cruise together takes that away... I like scenic drives too... and my room mate does call me a bunny... coincidence? I think so LOL
-I have been looking for Jolly Rancher candies for weeks now and have been unable to locate any. I even made an intoxicated 1am phone call on a dare to Loebs to see if I could run over there... No luck :( Where have all the Jolly Rancher's gone???? I want Green Apple! I want it real baaaaad ;)
-Hearing about love reminds me that it does still exist and instead of feeling sad about not having it I should feel blessed to have so much around me (See Jing! I'm trying! Hahahahahaha Seriously though, I LUV you and Nick and I do wish you all the best and you know you LOVE me being jealous of you for something ;) You have a wonderful thing going and you both deserve it! I have already begun writing the speech for your wedding in which I was designated to do *clears throat* I'll surprise you :P Muahahaha OPEN BAR IS A MUST!
-Breaking out into dance when your alone in a room full of strangers vs with a friend... VERY DIFFERENT reactions! lol
-I do enjoy talking to strangers... and if one offers me candy... I just may accept depending on my sweet tooth. Like the time Jing and I found ourselves in an XXX store and the cash register guy sparked up a conversation and offered us Dibs... yes we have accepted candy from a stranger in a porn store... RANDOM! LOL
-If I was a talent scout I would be entertained always
-Do men in bus washrooms still stand to pee and if so... how?
-I should not be allowed to listen to Micheal Jackson in public as I am still in need to fight the urge to grab my crotch
-What do women with drawn on eyebrows do when it's raining out and they have forgotten their umbrella?

As you can tell... I had limited entertainment resources at my disposal while waiting and I befriended some interestingish people LOL

Okay there friends, acquaintances, imaginary lovers, strangers, stalkers etc. I am off to enjoy life! Join me! (I meant in spirit! Freaking stalkers Pfft) lmao

Valentines day

I was told a number of things this Valentines day and I went through a LOT!!!! Jing told everyone I was her Valentine...and then added because her boyfriend wasn't here until the next day and I am alone. Booooooo

10) Adam called and had had a wonderful date with a doctor who invited him up to her apartment and then told him she was going to go to sleep... so he called me and we drank...and drank...and drank some more

11) While waiting for Adam at the Heart and Crown... for 15 minutes ALONE with only standing room!!! I do not think that we've ever hung out without alcohol around though...hmmm

12) I was hit on apparently by a lot of people (not to boast *dusts shoulder*)but was completely oblivious and was thus told about it later as friends laughed at me and announced that that is in fact the reason to why I am single... I just don't see it lol I am a random flirt who doesn't seem to catch on to the hints... something to work on I guess *shrugs*

13) I woke up alone... as per usual... not in pjs but as though I changed out of my suit and into another full outfit...with my $150 Guess purse filled with salt, a digital camera filled with snap shots of my clevage taken from across a large wooden table, a napkin rose folded in my pocket, 24 people talking to me on msn, covered nearly completely in 28 pillows as though I couldn't find my blankets and in an intoxicated attempt to keep warm covered myself...( the blanket was on the left side of the bed...I'm funny hahaha)

Now today is the day after Valentines day and my room mate is fixing up the apartment for her awaited LOVVVVVVVVVAAAAAA sooooo I's gots to go. I went to the mall earlier and bought a LOT of discounted candy to give the boys back home and I am off!

Oh oh... BIG ENDING!!! Check out the love song for this year ;)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy9C9UpC7qk

I will be gone for a while but I'll try to post when there...maybe... possibly

36 Ways to Know a First Date IS NOT Going Well

<img style="float:left; I just may die alone...

lmao

Jing (9:34 PM)
"Brad Pitt because he's HOT!"

Me: I like the way you think... or are you just wanting me to get with Brad Pitt so that he might move in with us, get us in to restricted parties, take us on exotic trips, make us into instant celebrities... your motives seem pure. I'll put him on the list :P

Aiden (10:06 PM):
"Chyna the wrestler? Because she's wicked strong, unfortunately she's out of work. =("

Me: Why are you trying to set me up with an out of work chick who could KILL me with one hand? She is quite entertaining though... LOL She'll go on the list!

James (10:10 PM)
"Ferris Bullar on his day off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could soooooooooooo see you in that movie!!!!!!!!"

Me: Buahahahahahahahahahaha I always wanted to ride on a float lip-sinking and doing the mashed potato!! LOL

Nick (10:16 PM):
"Angelina Jolie...because she's hot and crazy"

Me: And you see me as hot and crazy so we're a match made in a perfect world or because opposites attract and I'm... ummmmmm I'll go with perfect world scenario... THANK YOU! hehehe

Anthony (10:21 PM)
"You need to be with someone as out there as you! LOL Stephen Lynch!!! Some of his lyrics are just wrong! As a femanist and a general member of the human race I must state that. Now that that is out of the way... Listening to him I cry a little laughing a lot :P

Amanda (10:30 PM)
"Someone beautiful inside and out with a ton of money!!! $$$$$$$$ ;)"

Me: And who might this be? I see 6 cats, a hamster that torments them all and frequent visits from the Magnotta delivery boy - but much more for delivery of wine and absolutely not for Krista-fun.
You know ... that's if you don't move back to Toronto and cause a fight between Derek and I. Then one of us schmucks."

Rob: (11:31 PM)
"Oh - I never said why ... did I? Do I need to?
